Biography

Maria trained and worked as a nurse before undertaking her first degree in Psychology. As part of her degree she spent a year working on a research project investigating patients' beliefs and intentions when visiting their General Practitioner. She completed her PhD in the Department of Psychology at UCL, which focused on reducing anxiety in patients undergoing medical procedures. Subsequent research at Queen Mary and Westfield College explored decision making in doctors when prescribing treatment for patients with heart failure. She joined the Clinical Risk Unit at UCL in 1998, where she is involved in a number of research projects in clinical risk management including risk perception and adverse events.

Maria, together with Pam La Rose, designed and produced the Clinical Risk Unit webpages.
